Historical Notes: The information and date accompanying this record comes from the back of the original print. However, according to Canterbury Heritage, the paddle tug SS Lyttelton was launched in 1878. They also suggest that this photograph was taken during the vessel's delivery voyage in early November of that year (ref. http://canterburyheritage.blogspot.com/2008/09/lytteltons-second-tug.html).
