Shows an extensive view in Southland with Wharekorari, seated to the left, facing the artist, while Alfred Wills lies on his pack, a sunhat over his face, facing a line of hills, in which one is shaped like an elephant (or a mayor's hat). Three small figures can be seen in the middle distance to the right, one Maori, the other two probably European men. A small kainga (or kaika) is also in the middle distance in the centre.
