Wellington Provincial Centennial Memorial under construction, The Esplanade, Petone, 1939. Evening Post photograph. Photographer unidentified.Original caption from newspaper, attached to back of file print, reads: "Steady progress is being made with the erection of the memorial on the foreshore at Petone to commemorate the landing of the first settlers on Petone beach. The building will consist of a memorial fountain and bathing accommodation. The memorial section is the higher portion now showing above the wings of the block."
