Back views of Mantell's fellow surveyors, Alfred Wills and Mr Malmanche, both with large packs of their belongings on their backs, walking away from the viewer. Malmanche has a much larger pack, and also carries a rifle across his shoulders. Below is another back view of 'Mr Tom', possibly the Maori guide accompanying the group
