Original caption reads: "New Zealanders on Occupational Duties; Members of the 22nd Battalion were among the first New Zealanders to take up their occupational duties in Japan. They took over control of the repatration centre at Senzaki from American troops 24 hours after they disembarked at Kure. Major L.W. Wright is seen here watching a group of Korean repatriates. They had been brought to Japan for forced labour, and were allowed to take with them such household goods as they could carry on their backs. Men, women and children carried hugh loads quite cheerfully." Photograph taken by an army photographer.
