Inscriptions: Inscribed - Verso - top left: 84. The pahu or tree gong at Te Whaite. Erase [?] [one crossed out] the lower head [in pencil, in an unknown hand. Probably inscribed in association with the work's reproduction in books by either Elsdon Best (Games and pastimes of the Maori, 1925) or Johannes Andersen (Maori music, 1934)]
