Australian defence minister Kim Beazley as a naval officer twisting the arm of a New Zealand naval rating. Exhibition caption reads - With the ANZUS Treaty effectively dead, New Zealand, needing to shore up its rocky bi-lateral relationship with Australia, signed up, in November 1989, to the ANZAC Ship Project. Critics saw more than a little arm twisting on the part of Australian defence minister Kim Beazley when it was announced that New Zealnd would acquire two new frigates, with options on two more, at a cost of $2 billion.
