Pottier, H J A fl 1855 :Rade de Taiti, le 23 septembre 1856.
Reference Number: E-548-006
Shows Papeete (Tahiti) from the roadstead, with several buildings on the seafront amongst palmtrees, and mountains in the background. The imposing building is probably the administration building (see photographs by Viaud in 1850s - NZ&P q919.6211 VIA, where a building resembling this in its tower, is described as "le batiment de manutention" - facade in 1859 is slightly different). The building in Pottier's work also features in Henry Byam Martin's "Papeete - Otaheite from my cabin window. March [ca 1847] - see file print - location of original unknown.
