Historical Notes: A Fell engine, built by Neilson & Co., Glasgow (maker's no 3468/86), which entered service on the 9th of August 1886 and was written of in March 1956. It was equipped with Joy's radial valve gear on the "outside" engine. (Information from the 'Register of New Zealand Steam Locomotives 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, 1974, page 53, and 'Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives' by A N Palmer & W W Stewart).
