Historical Notes: George Fenwick was born at Sunderland, England, came to Melbourne with his father, Robert Fenwick in 1853. After a year or two on the diggings in Melbourne, came to Otago, travelling on the schooner Challenger in 1856. At the age of 12, George entered on his apprenticeship at the Otago Witness Office where he stayed for 5 years before moving to Otago Daily Times under Vogel. He ws knighted in 1919 and died on 23 Sep 1929.
