Historical Notes: Note on back of file print reads: "Evacuating troops (from Walker's) - shell bursting just above pontoons. Notice the steamer run aground to provide a breakwater, but notwithstanding, all these piers were washed away by the gale that sprang up 24 hours after the evacuation."
