Shows two figures on near ridge, looking down over the inlet of Picton Harbour at left. To the right are hills, and in the distance can be seen islands and hills in the Marlborough Sounds. There is a small area of cleared land with dwellings in the port area to the left, the earliest European buildings in Picton. The New Zealand Company stamp, dated 1848, appears in the sky area along with the number 268.
