A large crowd of people gathered at the corner of Lambton Quay and Molesworth Street, below fluttering flags strung up between two tall poles. A man is giving a speech in the middle of the crowd, which is mostly on foot, although two women are on horseback on the left. The view looks out to the harbour, with the ships also decorated with falgs, and along Lambton Quay towards Te Aro. An outline pyramid or tent structure made from logs is in the centre of the crowd.
