Historical Notes: Worsley returned to Britain and reported for duty with the royal Navy in april 1917 (he was a Royal Navy Reserve officer). In July he was given command of the 'mystery ship' PQ61. On September 26 this ship sank the German submarine UC33 off the south coast of Ireland, for which action Worsley was awarded the DSO. The photograph was probably taken after April 1916 but before he was awarded his decoration in late September. (Source of information; John Thomson).
