Shows a view from Signal Hill, Dunedin, looking north along the coastline from the base of the signal tower. A figure at the base of the tower is adjusting the flags to read 'steamer from the north' while another man watches the harbour entrance through a telescope. Buildings can be seen below the brow of the hill. On the left, a boat is entering the harbour below
