Reference Number: 1/2-172417-F
Part 2 of a 3 part panorama of Karori, Wellington, taken by Royal Studios in 1932. Looks southeast across the suburb toward the Karori Reservoir. In the bottom right corner is Chamberlain Road. The road running from the lower left to the centre is Parkvale Road. The buildings on the far left belong to Karori Normal School. In the centre, on Karori Road, is the Methodist Church: the original church building is seen immediately behind this. Across the road from the church, on the corner of Raine Street and Karori Road, is the Watchman family grocery shop (later Sutherland's Self Help shop). To the right of the church are: the Hemsley family house, Maurice Spier's blacksmith shop (the long dark building), Edward and Bessie Smith's house, the Karori Borough Council buildings (which became the public library) and the house belonging to Ben Burn (former mayor of Karori Borough). The large dark building with a white roof on the opposite side of the road (to the right of the Burn house) is the Regal Picture Theatre. On the corner of Karori Road and Parkvale Road is W C Cooper's house: his bakehouse faces Parkvale Road.
