On the far right is Wellington College, with St Mark's Church and schoolroom to the left of this. The Caledonian Hotel is visible on the corner of Adelaide Road and Rugby Street. Smoke is rising from a residence in the foreground. Early plantations of pines can be seen around the Basin Reserve and behind Wellington College (both early 1870s), and on Mount Victoria between Pire and Ellis Streets (planted 1880). Taken by an unidentified photographer, circa 1900.
