Historical Notes: Note on back of file print reads: The Evening Post 30 March 1909 reports that "Mr J J Burke (sic) is making good progress with his hemp drying at Miramar. The hemp which is undergoing re-conditioning is that salvaged from the harbour board fire. About 40 men have been at work on it, the hemp being dried on wire fences". (J J Burke should read J J Bourke, who had a well known wool scouring plant at Kilbirnie) (Information from Ian Matheson, Archivist, P. North Public Libabry. See letter 13/12/4 13 February 1992)
