Shows a Maori kainga in the foreground, with two thatched whare, one of which is raised on stilts. In the right foreground is a fence of thin stakes. A group of five Maori stand or sit in the centre foreground. Wellington Harbour is seen in the background through a V-shaped gap in the bush-covered hills.
