Historical Notes: Note on back of file print reads: "White Heron (Egretta alba) at Okarito, South Westland. Called Kotuku in Maori. Tradition says it appears only once in a human lifetime, hence in national affairs it figures only in events of unique importance. From Christmas card, sent by P M Holland." Sir Sidney George Holland was Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1949 to 1957.
