Historical Notes: Central mountain range is slightly more peaked than in photographs, but location decided because of similarity of stream to that in James C Richmond's "Kaikoura in the village" (ATL C-090-005), and in William Francis Barraud's "Kaikoura from West End" (ATL A-084-022). See also photo of West End in Sherrard's "Kaikoura; a history of the district", between pages 160-161. Another similar view is in Henry Grant Lloyd's "Kaikoura and the Kaikouras. Feb 14, 1888" (file print in D&P - original held in Mitchell Library).
