The McMenamen homestead, Terawhiti, during the search for survivors from the Penguin, which was wrecked on 12 February 1909. Historical Notes: The photographer who may be seen with his tripod in the doorway of the farm shed in the background is probably Joseph Zachariah (1867-1965), who practiced in Wellington as Zak Studios. His photographs of the Penguin disaster appeared in the New Zealand Free Lance, 20 February 1909.
