Maori family (ancestors of the Reiri family) outside a whare puni (small communal sleeping house) at Mangaakuta, a hamlet near Masterton. The legend regarding the fishing of the North Island by Maui is depicted on the gables of the building which is sometimes referred to as the 'Maui House'. Photograph taken by James Bragge circa 1870s.This house has also been described as being at Manga-a-Kuta pa, Homebush, Masterton, Clancy's Corner, and as "Maori Pah Pipitea Point 1865"
