Low, David Alexander Cecil, 1891-1963 :Hon. dove lays its eggs. December 1941?
Reference Number: NON-ATL-C-0094
A dove of peace, an olive branch in its beak, made up like a plane, pilotted by a Japanese. Bombs are being dropped from the plane onto Pearl Harbour below. Refers to the unexpected raid by Japan on Malaya and on Pearl Harbour (Hawaii) on 7 December 1941 several weeks after the apparently peaceful mission of the Japanese diplomat Kurusu to the United States. The raids were viewed as doubly dishonourable after the apparent friendly initiatives and because Japan had not declared war. The cartoon also comments negatively on the Japanese concept of honour
