Patrol from 27 Battalion, J Force, on the island of Mi-shima, Japan, Between 1946 and 1948

Original caption reads: "NZEF in Japan. New Zealand troops were the first Europeans to land on the island of Mi-shima. Picture shows patrol of men of no 7 platoon, 27th Battalion, led by Lieut J H K Woodhouse, Darfield, marching down the picturesque streets in a fishing village, caus[ing] a considerable amount of interest among the population. Although shy at first, the inhabitants soon became curious as to the type of visiting troops. Only military equipment on the island was a radar station and wireless station." Photograph taken between 1946 and 1948 by a New Zealand Army photographer.
