Historical Notes: Alexander LeGrand Campbell exhibited a painting called View in Queen Charlotte Sound at the inaugural exhibition of the Fine Arts Association in Wellington in March 1883. It may possibly be this watercolour.

Inscriptions: Inscribed - Recto - bottom left: A LeG Campbell 23 Jan 80; Backing board recto - bottom left: Marlborough Sounds 1880. Anon. [Title probably not written by the artist. "Anon" appears to be in another hand. Also inscription on back of backing board in the hand of a former staff member with title, date, former location, and (incorrect) artist's name.]
