The sailing ship 'Waimea' berthed at Port Chalmers. Photograph taken by David Alexander De Maus between 1873 and 1895. Dated from the date of purchase by the New Zealand Shipping Co., and her sale to Norwegian Company, Westergaard & Co. In this image she is flying the NZSCo flag.

Historical Notes: The Waimea was built in 1868, and launched as the "Dorette". She was purchased by the New Zealand Shipping Co. in 1873, and renamed Waimea. She was wrecked at Algoa Bay, South Africa in 1902. (Information from back of file print)
