Historical Notes: Dated similarly to "Newcastle lighthouse and Nobby Island" with which it was acquired. Swainson was working for the New South Wales government in 1851-52, but may have made only one trip to Newcastle in that time. In 1852, he moved on to Victoria, and then in 1853/54 to Tasmania before returning to New Zealand in 1854.
