Hodgkins, Isabel Jane 1867-1950 :Wet day in camp. [Manapouri. Tuesday 23 February 1886].

Shows a group of six "campers" seated around a table on boxes, stools or floor mats. Clockwise from left they are named as: Vida [Warren], Mary Calder, Arthur P [Pearce - the Boy], Stewart [or Stuart -see diary of Katherine McLean Holmes, page 37] Holmes, Miss [Katherine] Holmes, and in the centre "Boots" [Mr Hosking], with his back to the viewer. The beams at the top indicate a wooden structure holding up the canvas roof. There is a clock hanging from the tent wall, and a cooking pot in the foreground. Nicknames of the group are set out in an entry for the 16th February in a copy of Katherine McLean Holmes' diary of the trip - copy in Manuscripts Collection. Dr Scott = The Boss; Miss Holmes = The Bostess; Miss Hodgkins = The Baby; Mary Calder = The Busy Bee; Vida Warren = The B.J.; Mr Pearce = The Boy; Mr Hosking = Boots; Dr Roberts = Bobs; S[tewart] Holmes = The Blank B.
