Whakarongo mai, ki te haerenga atu o Tapu, ka tae atu ki te muru[?], i runga . . . ana te Pakeha e noho ana. Waiho tonu te patiti ki nga kete e tare ana. Ka mau te patiti i nga kawe o nga kete unu ra, mau tonu haere atu ana te patiti i te Pakeha. Ka tono atu ka homai, ka mea aua tangata i ka utu ano atu nga Pakeha i Manawatu.

This is the news I heard from Taratoa's letter, of what [took place?] at Waimahora. [He?] said to me that perhaps the Pakeha have been killed.

Listen, when Tapu left, he went to plunder[?] the . . .[unclear] Pakeha living on [the land?]. There was an axe hanging up with the kits, which the Pakeha were taking with them. [Tapu] demanded that they be given up; the Pakeha said they would pay for them at Manawatu.
