Tena ra ko koe. E tama, tenei ano ta matou nei tikanga. Kia rongo mai koe, ko tenei ko to matou whenua, ko Te Paripari, ka tukua katoatia atu e matou ki a korua ko Te Makarini. Ko ta korua korero ko Te Watarauihi i tou taenga mai ki Waikanae i mua, i tau kupu i ki mai ai ki a Te Watarauihi, kei a koe te whakaaro ki a ia mo te wahi kua riro ki roto i te rohe mo nga Pakeha. Kua whakaae ia ki tou aroaro, ki tau kupu, ko tana whakaaetanga kua waiho ki a matou.

Greetings to you there. Young man, this is our plan. Listen, this land of ours, Te Paripari, we give in its entirety to you and McLean. In your discussion with Te Watarauihi on your arrival at Waikanae before, you said to him that you would consider him for the part taken within the boundary for the Pakeha. He agreed in your presence with your suggestion, and his agreement remains with us
