Ki Poneke, ki a Kawana
E hoa,

Tenei ano taku korero ki a koe. E mea ana ahau kia tuku i toku kainga ki a koe, he pono taku korero. No mua ka korero toku matua kia tukua a Wairarapa, kahore au i pai. Inaianei ka pirangi au kia hoatu e au te whenua ki a koe. Me haere mai koe ki konei korero ai tatou. Ki kahore, me tuhituhi mai e koe kia rongo atu au. Haere mai. Heoi ano te korero.

To Port Nicholson, to the Governor,

This is my message to you. I wish to give my land to you, and what I say is true. Earlier my father said to give over Wairarapa but I did not agree. Now I would like to give the land to you. Come here so we can all talk about it. If not, then write to me to let me know. But do come here. That's all there is to say.
