E hoa, e Te Makarini,

He kupu taku ki a koe, ki tetahi kepa maku, ki tetahi hota maku. Mau e tuhituhi ki a Te Kuka kia homai. Tenei taku kupu ki a koe, e ta, mei koe ka haere ake ki runga, ki a te au [ ki a au?] i to haerenga ki Heretaunga.

My word to you is about some caps and some shot for me. Would you write to Te Kuka to give them to me. And this is my question to you, sir, whether you will come south to me [?] on your way to Heretaunga.
