Friends, all people named in the document of agreement with Te Mairini [McLean?] for the payment for Anakiwa. Listen to what I have to say to you.

Richmond and I do not have authority to pay for that land, but another person has been arranged by the Governor, McLean, as land purchase agent. Soon he, McLean, will come south to arrange payment for the lands which have been properly approved, Te Taitapu and other parts in the west. However, we do not know his intention for the land you have publicised, whether he will agree to pay for it or not. But when he arrives, I myself will give him your document and if he consents to pay for the land, he will go to you to verify the boundaries and arrange payments over the land.

You should keep this document safely to give to McLean when he comes to you later on. That is all.
