The entries for April and May are brief, rough, entries at the back of the volume and describe McLean's travels and negotiations with various parties including Ngati Apa and Ngati Raukawa about the large Rangitikei land purchase, which was concluded at Wanganui in May.The June entries describe a journey up the Whanganui River to an upriver hui. There are several long descriptive passages describing places visited and Maori ceremonies and activites. Also included is a long passage in which he reflects on 'the first time I have approached the Lord to take the Holy Sacrament'.
