He kupu tenei naku kia rongo mai koe, ki te wahi i whakatakotoria nei e koe nga utu, ki a Karira. Ka pakeke au ki taua wahi mo nga ritenga he a Te Kupa ki a au. Ki te kore ona e rongo ki aku tukunga, me ka hoatu ki a ia, ka ki atu ra au ki a koe, e kore e pu. He mahara i te tamariki. Heoi ano, ka mutu.

So this is what I want you to hear about the part you played in the payments for Karira. I'm annoyed over that on account of Cooper's wrong treatment of me. If he would not have heeded my offers, and had given it to him, then I could say to you it would not have arisen. It's childish thinking. That's all, the end of this.

E hoa, e Makarini,

Tena ra koe. Kia rongo mai koe, he kupu tenei naku ki a koe. Kua raruraru matou mo to tikanga ngaro ki a au, mo te wahi i whakatakotoria nei e koe nga utu ki a Karira, no te mea i tangohia pukutia i au. No muri i a koe ka pohehe taku whakaaro, no te mea ko aku tikanga kua pehia e Te Kupa ki raro, kua tahuri te whakaaro o Te Kupa ki nga tangata o Whatumataruru. Ko aku tikanga kua mate rawa i Whatumataruru i a Te Kupa hoki. Nau i whakahe ka taka au i runga i a taua tikanga. Ko tenei, ka mahue i au a taua tikanga, o tikanga i waiho ki a au, ka uru au ki roto ki te he.

He kupu tenei naku kia rongo mai koe, ki te wahi i whakatakotoria nei e koe nga utu, ki a Karira. Ka pakeke au ki taua wahi mo nga ritenga he a Te Kupa ki a au. Ki te kore ona e rongo ki aku tukunga, me ka hoatu ki a ia, ka ki atu ra au ki a koe, e kore e pu. He mahara i te tamariki. Heoi ano, ka mutu.

Friend, McLean,

Greetings to you. Listen, I've this to tell you. We have run into trouble over your secret arrangement for me, over the part in which you set payments for Karira, because it was taken from me without a word. After you left I became confused because my plans were suppressed by Cooper, whose attention had turned to the people of Whatumataruru. My plans were scrapped at Whatumataruru, and by Cooper. You were at fault and I failed in our arrangement. So, I abandoned our arrangement, the plans you left me, and I ran into trouble.

From me, from your good friend,
