Friend, McLean,

Greetings to you, that is, to you and your wife, and to you and the Governor and his wife; greetings to you all.

Friend, we waited over the past weeks for some answer from you to our letter. And when there was no reply then we said we should go off there to see the Governor. However, we didn't know what time to go for we thought that perhaps you and he were greatly occupied, and so we thought to write a letter for you both to read. It is for you two to agree to our coming to you, and to write to us with a time for us to come to suit you. If you don't want us to come, write to us, for either of those, write to us. However, young man, it is our wish to go and see the Governor, and he's a man who will return to his home, and that is why we are keen to see him. That's all.
