Tena ra koutou ko taina ko [o] matua. Kia rongo mai koutou ki ta matou tikanga mo Te Wharekura. Kua pa matou ki nga Pakeha ki Wakatu, ki a Kawana, Te Retimona, ka mea te kupu o Te Retimona, kei a Te Makarini te tikanga mo Te Wharekura, mo Anakiwa, mo nga whenua katoa

Greetings to you, your younger brothers and elders. Hear our decision about Te Wharekura. We have approached the Pakeha at Wakatu, the Governor and Richmond, and Richmond says that it's up to McLean to decide about Te Wharekura, and about Anakiwa and all the lands
