2 Hune 1852

E hoa, e Te Makarini,

Tena koe. E tama, kua tae au ki ta taua mahi. Kua hinga te pou a Pohehe i a au. E kia ana ka hinga, ka ara. Heoti ko taua pou poro rawa ki te kani, tahu rawha ki te ahi, me te whare. Heoti ano.

Friend, McLean,

Greetings. Young man, I've done our deed. I've felled Pohehe's pole. It's said that if it falls, it will rise again. But the pole has been chopped up with a saw and set alight, along with the house. That's all.
