Comprises rough diary entries, notes and drafts of deeds. There is some overlap with the diary entries for 1851 and 1852 in other volumes. Entries include accounts of his journey from Wellington to Hawkes Bay to complete the Ahuriri purchase in late 1851, a mid-1852 expedition to Manawatu and Wanganui, and an October 1853 expedition to the Wairarapa.

78 pages, related to d Te Hapuku, Hawke's Bay Region, Wairarapa, Rangitane and Ngati Kahungunu.
