McLean's notes relating to speeches by Takerei and others, [ca 1850-1869]
Reference Number: MS-PAPERS-0032-0702O-03. Object #1030255
Pencil notes taken apparently of a korero held by Maori to discuss the selling of their lands. Short summaries in English are made of what was said by Takerei, Poihipi, Te Waka, Ropiha, [Te?] Mohi. Strong support for more immigrants from England but not for large runholders - people, not a populace of sheep and cattle, are desired. White settlement is likened tokokohurangi, "a tree growing on another".
