Notebook, 1871

A notebook compiled on McLean's visit to the north in early 1871. Included in it are notes about Maori who might be suitable for Government appointments and other notes about the Bay of Islands and Hokianga. At the end he records his opinion on the 'real causes of the first war at the north', giving several reasons, both specific and more general, including that the 'Treaty of Waitangi not properly interpreted especially the word sovereignty'.
