June 24th, 1857.

Dear Sir,

As you are aware, I have already begun the school-farm by tilling about five acres. But I am afraid, it will be for no use, unless I shall pakiki again to your kindness for a loan of £20, for three months time, in order to fence in those five acres. In October I will be able to give back that sum.

If you can comply to my humble demand, let me know, and send that amount to my agent Mr. W. Harker Short-land-street or rather send it to me in bills by the post.

I remain, Dear Sir,
Your obedt. servt.
J. M. Gavirvely.

P.S. The Kings flag which was despatched to the tribes in the south of New Zealand has been stopped and sent back 2 weeks ago by Hikuku Ngature from Makau. I was myself present at the meeting he wont have any King, so the bearers 8 of them could not go further.
