August 17, 1870 (?)

My dear McLean,

I hope you will give Fairchild orders not to be more than a fortnight away, for we cannot take the Duke of Edinburgh anywhere without him. I trust that you will be able to arrange our visit to the East Coast very soon after the end of the Session; as I naturally want to get back to my family, and we could visit the Ngatiporos, Arawas (to whom visits have been promised) on our way up.

Ever yrs.
G. F. Bowen
