Te Paneiri, River Manawatu,
March 31st, /49.


I have the honor to inform you that I received your letter of the 26th inst. last evening, in which I am requested to communicate to you the wishes of the Natives with respect to the survey of Villages for them in this District.

In answer I have the honor to inform you, that when was at Taita, I was informed by Henry the Native Teacher at that place, that the natives there wished to have a Village fo themselves, and also to have allotments in the Village at Paneiri.

Mr. Duncan informed me that had understood from His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor that there was to be one at Awahou.

I was told also by Wilson the Native Teacher at Paneiri that the Natives at Puketotara wished to havea Village for themselves.
