My last night as bachelor
August 27 1851

My dear Susan

Send me the white pocket handkerchief and the black neck one if to do not wish me to go up tomorrow without one. Have you anything more for my box? There is a great deal of room in it yet. I will be up till very late writing.

Keep yourself cheerful. You have nothing to do that needs the least affection of the nerves. May the Almighty for ever bless you and may you, as well as myself, on leaving your parents' roof have their united blessings and believe me always

Your very afft
Donald McLean

Mr Williamson is going on with the cards. They seem to suit very well thanks to your ingenuity pet.
