March 10th, 1849

My dear McLean,

I received your note dated Manawatu the 6th only yesterday I find that you had written to the Governor on the 28th intimating the time of the Meeting. I waited until this morning to know whether he intended my coming up and as nothing has been said by His Exy. I conclude he prefers my remaining - the matter could not have escaped his memory as he has given little Ormond leave for a day or two with Thomas and Collinson. I regret not being able to join you, but nevertheless hope you may have the success you look for - I hope the thing will go off quietly.

Believe me,
Yours very truly,
D.McLean Esqr., J.P.
