2 Jany. 1868

My dear McLean,

I am sorry to say I cannot find in Napier an American plough. I promised one to Wirihana on the lake as part payment for 2 cows I bought for my Station. His messenger has come for it and not one can be got in Napier.

I want you to get me one in Wellington and get it shipped by next steamer. The account I will pay to your order. Will you kindly manage this, or get Mr.Hunter to get it for me -

I hope you will succeed in getting the C.D.F. located at Poverty Bay Haultain chooses always to declare that no promise was ever made to them. Ask for the correspondence, you will find a Memo. from Richmond to the effect that he did promise it.

I hope you will be sworn a Privy Councillor -or Executive - or whatever it is called.

Please don't forget the plough and believe me
Sincerely yours
G. S.Whitmore
