My dear McLean,

The Governor has, this morning, seen a lot of natives who have some disputed claim about land at Kaiapoi and elsewhere; and has to see them again.

He wishes he to write to you now, in order that you may think of some one whom you can send here, to enquire into and settle these claims.

Would you be good enough to taks steps accordingly?

Yours truly (Signed)
