My dear McLean,

I enclose a telegram for Haultain which please read and forward. I think it describes the skirmishes correctly but as the fighting parties have had no direct communication and all sorts of stories are told by those who have no means of knowing probably the newspapers will get different accounts. If so there is no reliance to be placed on them. I send up the ''Sturt'' for ammunition and there will be no harm in sending more biscuit if any is to be had.

In haste,
Yours truly,
